This year, I decided to shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale a little differently.
Instead of browsing everything online, I visited my local Nordstrom store with a very specific mission. I wasn’t looking for dozens of new pieces. I was searching for a few high-quality items that would become lasting staples in my wardrobe.
As we get older, I believe our wardrobes should reflect who we are today—not who we were thirty years ago.
That means choosing timeless pieces that make us feel confident, elegant, and comfortable every time we wear them.
Why Quality Matters More Than Ever
Earlier in my career, I wore beautiful pieces from fashion houses like Chanel, Max Mara, and Loro Piana. Those garments taught me how exceptional fabrics and craftsmanship should feel.
Because of that experience, I’ve become very selective.
I would rather own fewer pieces that are beautifully made than a closet full of items that won’t stand the test of time.
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale gave me the opportunity to find that quality without paying full price.

The biggest surprise of the day was finding not one—but two—trench coats that checked every box.
The first was the REISS Azura Trench, which immediately reminded me of the timeless glamour of classic 1970s films. I loved the luxurious fabric, beautiful drape, and removable zip-in hood that gives the coat two completely different looks. It feels polished enough for dressier occasions but casual enough for everyday wear.
I also fell in love with the Theory Double Breasted Longline Trench Coat. The quality reminded me of coats I’ve owned that cost several thousand dollars. The fabric drapes beautifully, and the classic silhouette makes it the kind of investment piece I expect to wear for many years to come.
Beautiful Leather Jackets That Flatter
I also discovered several leather jackets that impressed me.
The Bagatelle Basketweave Detail Leather Jacket stood out because of its flattering shape and beautiful leather detailing. It works equally well with jeans, skirts, or dresses and creates a feminine silhouette without feeling overly structured.
Another favorite was the Bagatelle Peplum Leather Jacket, which adds shape at the waist and pairs beautifully with skirts for a more polished look.
For anyone looking for an affordable option, the Bagatelle Faux Leather Blazer completely exceeded my expectations. It has wonderful stretch, feels surprisingly luxurious, and looks far more expensive than its price suggests.
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Over 60: Classic Jackets I’ll Wear Again and Again
Not every great wardrobe piece has to be formal.
I was also drawn to the Barbour Transport Waxed Cotton Jacket, which has a timeless equestrian feel. The corduroy collar, tartan lining, and classic styling make it a jacket I’ll enjoy wearing for years.
Another wonderful surprise was the Bernardo Plaid Double Breasted Coat. It offered beautiful style, warmth, and versatility at an exceptional price, making it one of my favorite value finds from the sale.
Timeless Shoes and Accessories
No wardrobe is complete without beautiful finishing touches.
I was excited to finally see the boots and shoes I had ordered online, including elegant booties that I know will become everyday favorites this fall. Timeless shoes never go out of style, and choosing classic silhouettes means you’ll reach for them season after season.

One of the biggest lessons I took away from this shopping trip had very little to do with clothing.
Walking through the store reminded me that taking pride in our appearance is not vanity.
