Style Tips for Women over 50
I have learned over these many years that dressing as a woman over 50 is about finding clothing that fits you well and compliments your body type … with a style that reflects your personality and is appropriate for the occasion. I have always preferred simple yet classic styles that are forever timeless and elegant. Irregardless of your personal style or what you wear … CONFIDENCE IS KEY! Wear what makes you feel good about yourself and confident in your skin. Your attitude will make any outfit shine!
Here are a few style tips for women over 50 that come from my own experience building wardrobes and observing other mature women:
TAILORING: Well-fitted clothes that taper in the right places for your body type is the most important thing. If necessary, spend less on clothing items to leave some budget to ensure your blazers, trousers, skirts and dresses will flatter your shape.
FABRICS: When possible, opt for high-quality natural fibers like silk, cotton, and linen. These materials often look more refined, feel comfortable and stand the test of time in both style and endurance.
STYLE: Invest in timeless pieces like a little black dress, a trench coat, or a tailored blazer. These are classic and can be styled in so many ways that they pay for themselves over and over again.
LAYERING: Use layers to add depth to your outfit. Lightweight cardigans, shawls, or elegant wraps can enhance your look and will look classic throughout the decades.
PALETTE: Opt for a cohesive color palette. Neutrals paired with pops of color can be very chic. Be careful with large patterns that can add “optical weight” to your figure. Saving prints for your accessories, or selecting ones that have a small scale pattern, may be the safest choice.
TRENDS: While dressing with the trends can be fun, it can also be very costly if pieces don’t work the following season,
ACCESSORIES: Statement jewelry, scarves, or a stylish handbag can elevate an outfit. Buying a few designer accessories like belts or purses can be great long-term investment if the budget allows. Just be mindful not to overdo accessorizing since it can cheapen the overall look.
FOOTWEAR: Heels are always my favorite since they make us look taller and feel more feminine, assuming your legs are up to it! In fact, heels exercise your calf muscles as long as your back and core are strong. Otherwise, choose comfortable yet stylish shoes like low-heeled pumps, ankle boots, or chic flats. Avoid trending styles that can lead to costly mistakes.
PERSONALITY TOUCHES: Incorporate personal elements that reflect your own unique style—vintage pieces, family heirlooms, or handmade accessories can tell your unique story.
With these style tips for women over 50, you can create a wardrobe that feels both elegant and true to you!
